Pray for Joseph Maraachli

Postby Lucy » Thu Feb 24, 2011 10:19 am

How about we all make it a matter of prayer today to pray for 13-month old Joseph Maraachli and his family. He's the little boy who's dying in a London hospital of a terminal illness. His family is certainly struggling right now. They are from Windsor, ON.

To everyone who followed this story

No more denying Canada's health care system has Death Panels

I too will pray, but not stick my head in the sand

I hope the Maraachli family sues the heartless socialist bureaucrats for all the extra stress they have been put under

And I certainly don't want retirement homes run by the province, like the CAW is pushing for

To grow through this pain of losing a child and a legal battle at the same time must certainly be taking its toll on this family. Yes, we are praying for them and everyone involved that the right decisions will be made.

For those of you following this story:

From CBC.ca

A terminally ill Ontario baby at the centre of a dispute over treatment underwent a tracheotomy in St. Louis, Mo., Monday.

Officials at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center said the one-year-old child known as Baby Joseph (Joseph Maraachli) underwent surgery at the St. Louis-based centre earlier on Monday.

Hospital officials said Baby Joseph, who suffers from a fatal neurologic disease, received the treatment after extensive consultations determined that the procedure was "medically appropriate."

Joseph is scheduled to stay in the pediatric intensive care unit for seven to 10 days. After he is discharged from SSM Cardinal Glennon, Joseph will travel to Ranken Jordan: A Pediatric Specialty Hospital in St. Louis, before being transported to his family home in Windsor.

"It is our hope that this procedure will allow Joseph and his family the gift of a few more months together and that Joseph may be more comfortable with a permanent tracheotomy," the hospital said in a release.

"As with any of the children we help, our primary focus must remain on the patient and what is best in his or her individual circumstances. We ask that you keep Baby Joseph and his family in your prayers."

The baby was moved to the U.S.-based hospital earlier this month after a London, Ont., hospital refused to perform the tracheotomy, saying it could cause infection or pneumonia. They believe the baby won't recover, and say he was moved against medical advice.

Little Joseph had the tracheotomy and is back home in Windsor. Hopefully the family can be at peace now. Then again, I'm sure they're not 'at peace' while watching their son die, but at least there isn't the drama of fighting the system going on. :|
